Course intended for Social Workers, Mental Health Professionals, and Nurses
Description: Recognizing one’s own image in the mirror can be challenging. In a world full of people looking at social media, each other, and using a comparison, it can be difficult to truly look at oneself in a reflection and stop to give praise or address who that person in the mirror is. In this course attendees explore what it means to be more than just the reflection in the mirror and how it has come to be that clients often are not able to look more than what the image of themselves or others truly means to them. Recognizing oneself as more than just body image or what the definition of that is can be a challenge for some clients. Learn various techniques of how to engage with clients using clinical methods and assist clients to heal from trauma related to body image.
Presenter: Amanda Boeing LMSW is a dedicated therapist continuously looking to push the boundaries of what we generally know about current mental health practices today. Amanda started to notice that a lot of the ways clinicians were working with clients might not be inclusive of current research and best current progressive mental health practices in certain areas. A client’s relationship with food and body image, diagnoses and the way we label and discuss a client’s mental health combined with how we discuss oppression, diversity and its important place in the therapy room, have all greatly shifted. Amanda works to push for better client care in these areas for herself and other clinicians. She is focused on the value and importance in mindfulness, strength based therapy, the mind body connection through working off of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. She really looks at using language that shifts away from shame and guilt for the client. Amanda is in the LGBTQIA+ community, sex positive, allied and actively fighting for BIPOC as well as the incarcerated community. As an intuitive eater she is constantly learning from clients who are the expert of their own lives. Amanda herself has navigated anxiety, depression, stress, life transitions, disordered eating, body image issues, relationship issues, family dynamics, bullying, finding balance and sexuality. Join her as she invites you to see her passion for human beings and this field.
